Veteran batter reaches 7,000 first-class runs with landmark century

Karachi-born batsman Rameez Aziz added another significant chapter to his enduring domestic career on Sunday, surpassing 7,000 first-class runs and scoring his 10th first-class hundred while representing State Bank of Pakistan in the ongoing season.

The left-hander, a veteran of Pakistan’s domestic circuit, reached the milestone during a determined innings for State Bank of Pakistan

Over his long first-class career, Aziz has been a backbone of several teams, bringing composure and experience to the middle order.

His first-class career to date includes over 7,100 runs at an average of 34.30, with 40 fifties and now a double-figure tally of centuries, an achievement that speaks volumes about his longevity and ability to perform across conditions.

His journey in competitive cricket began on the international youth stage. Aziz was part of the Pakistan Under-19 squad at the 2010 ICC Under-19 World Cup, captained by Azeem Ghumman, where he gained early exposure to high-pressure games.

Despite never breaking into Pakistan’s senior national side, Aziz has been a stalwart in domestic competitions such as the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, National T20 Cup and other first-class tournaments, often anchoring innings and contributing valuable partnerships.

His leadership credentials have also been evolving in recent seasons. With regular national team call-ups taking senior figures like Saud Shakeel and Shan Masood away from their Pakistan domestic commitments, Aziz has stepped in as “stand-in captain” for Karachi, showing calm leadership and tactical nous when entrusted with guiding the side in their absence.

As he continues to pile up runs and experience, Rameez Aziz remains one of the unsung pillars of Pakistan’s domestic cricket, embodying consistency, resilience and professionalism.
