The Pakistan Cricket Board is set to launch the National U19 Championship on 15 September 2026. Featuring twenty regional teams split into four competitive pools, the red ball tournament aims to reshape the future of domestic youth cricket. Each group consists of five teams playing single league matches against one another, with only the top team from each pool advancing to the next round.
Karachi cricket fans have plenty to look forward to because the metropolis is represented by two separate regional outfits. Karachi Region Blues and Karachi Region Whites have been placed in different groups, multiplying the city’s chances of clinching the prestigious national title.
Karachi Region Blues prepare for their Lahore campaign
The Karachi Region Blues squad finds itself placed in group D. They will travel to Lahore to play their group stage fixtures at the historic Railways Cricket Ground and the modern Athar Ali Academy Ground. To secure a place in the next round, Karachi Blues will have to overcome tough opposition in their group, which includes Peshawar Region Blues, Sialkot Region Blues, Dera Murad Jamali Region, and Hyderabad Region.
Karachi Region Whites face a challenging Northern tour
On the other side of the draw, Karachi Region Whites have been assigned to group B. They face a testing away itinerary with matches scheduled at the Ashfaq Cricket Ground in Charsadda and the Mir Awais Cricket Ground in Peshawar. The Whites will test their skills against competitive squads such as Lahore Region Blues, Bahawalpur Region, Peshawar Region Whites, and Islamabad Region.

This three day format is a vital modern initiative by the Pakistan Cricket Board. By introducing young prospects to multi day cricket early in their development pathways, the board ensures that the upcoming generation develops essential traits required for Test matches. Playing the longer version of the game tests the tactical temperament, technical reflexes, mental agility, and physical stamina of young athletes, laying a solid foundation for their senior careers.
Strategic scheduling and unique leadership advantages across both units
The preliminary stage of the tournament runs until 17 October 2026, after which the top teams progress to the crucial semifinals. The duration of the tournament means that as the final group stage matches approach in October, the weather in the Northern region will become notably colder. Facing these chilly conditions in Peshawar and Charsadda offers a brilliant developmental opportunity for Karachi Region Whites. Experiencing varied atmospheric changes serves as excellent preparation for these young players ahead of future international assignments, such as prospective youth tours to England or New Zealand.
The selection committee comprising experienced heads Iqbal Imam, Saeed Bin Nasir, and Shanullah chose the squads for both Karachi wings, ensuring balanced depth in both sides.
The Karachi Region Whites will be led by wicketkeeper batsman Muhammad Hassan. Having a captain stationed behind the stumps gives the team a massive tactical advantage, as the skipper enjoys a complete 360 degree view of the entire field to alter strategies dynamically. Furthermore, as a specialist wicketkeeper who also anchors the batting order, Muhammad Hassan brings crucial dual value to the side.
The Karachi Region Blues will look to the captaincy of Huzaifa Ehsan. Having already played for Pakistan at the U19 World Cup and the Asia Cup, the exciting allrounder brings invaluable tournament experience to the table. His right hand batting and handy off spin will give the team crucial balance in tough situations. The team will also receive a major mid tournament boost when two key players, Rizwanullah and Naqab Shafiq, return from an overseas tour in England to join the squad.
