Karachi region blues put on a dominant display in their recent encounters against Sialkot blues, securing crucial victories in both the three day and one day formats to significantly boost their championship hopes.
Dominant show in three day match secures top spot
The fourth round of the three day tournament was a must win fixture for Karachi blues as they looked to top their group. Having previously experienced a mixed run with one draw, one loss, and a win, the team entered the match with intense focus. While batting first, Karachi blues posted a reasonable total of 313 runs. The captain Huzaifa Ahsan continued his excellent run of form by contributing a solid 79 runs. However, the true highlight of the innings was Muhammad Azaan, who anchored the batting lineup with a brilliant century, scoring 109 runs. Their combined efforts placed the team in a commanding position.
Sialkot blues couldn’t get going against relentless display of bowling by Karachi blues. They collapsed dramatically in their first innings. Young fast bowler Abdul Rauf delivered an exceptional spell, picking up six wickets while conceding a mere 17 runs. His destructive bowling bundled out the entire Sialkot side for just 47 runs, prompting Karachi blues to enforce the follow on immediately.
Everyone was expecting a repeat telecast of 1st innings, but Obaid ur Rehman had other ideas. He launched a fierce counterattack for Sialkot. Playing with aggressive intent, he smashed 148 runs off just 90 balls at a rapid strike rate of 164. At 222 for the loss of two wickets, it briefly seemed that enforcing the follow on might backfire on Karachi. However, the young bowling duo of Niqab Shafiq and Abdul Rauf shifted the momentum back. Their disciplined spells triggered another collapse, bowling Sialkot out for 298 runs.
Needing just 33 runs for victory, Karachi blues chased down the target despite losing three wickets. Niqab Shafiq maintained his streak of excellent tournament performances, while Abdul Rauf completed a memorable ten wicket haul in the match. With this victory, Karachi blues have completed all their three day group matches and successfully claimed the top spot. While other teams in the group still have one game remaining, Karachi blues are almost guaranteed a finish in the top two positions. The tournament features 20 regional teams divided into four groups, with the top two sides from each group advancing to the quarter finals ahead of the knockout stages.
Perfect streak continues in one day tournament
The momentum carries over directly into the one day format, which takes place with a one day gap between the longer matches. Facing Sialkot blues once again at the Railways cricket ground in Lahore, Karachi blues registered a comfortable 72 run victory to maintain a perfect record.
Batting first in a relatively low scoring affair, Karachi blues managed 226 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs. The innings belonged entirely to captain Huzaifa Ahsan, who played a brilliant knock of 100 runs. His consistent batting display has now made him the leading run scorer of the entire tournament so far. Asad Umar provided a late flourish to the innings, smashing a quick cameo of 20 runs not out off just six deliveries. Sialkot blues bowlers Mohammad Ikrash and Umar Farooq picked up three wickets each but could not contain the scoring.
In response, Sialkot blues were bowled out for 154 runs in 31.5 overs despite a half century from Mohammad Ali. The Karachi blues bowlers proved too strong, led by an exceptional all round performance from captain Huzaifa Ahsan, who took three wickets for just 9 runs.
