The Karachi Region Inter-District Senior Tournament has officially concluded after an exciting and competitive campaign featuring seven zones, Zone I to Zone VII. The tournament was played in a single-league round-robin format, where each team faced the other six zones once. At the conclusion of the league stage, the team finishing with the highest points total was supposed to be declared the regional champion of Karachi. That team is Zone VI.
Zone VI emerged as deserving champions after winning five out of their six matches. Their only defeat came against Zone II in a dramatic encounter. Despite securing a massive first-innings lead of 122 runs, Zone VI suffered a shocking collapse in the second innings while chasing a target of 122 and eventually fell short by 44 runs. The remarkable bowling spells from Asad Akhtar and Muhammad Umar Ejaz played a decisive role in scripting Zone II’s memorable victory.
Apart from that solitary defeat, Zone VI delivered dominant and clinical performances throughout the tournament, comfortably outclassing the remaining zones to secure the championship title.
Beyond crowning the champion team, its greater objective remained player development and identifying emerging talent across Karachi. Several players produced outstanding performances during the competition.
Among the leading run-scorers, Muhammad Ali Butt from Zone V topped the batting charts with 512 runs at an impressive average of 46.45. He was followed by Sabeh Siddiqui of Zone VII, who accumulated 481 runs at an average of 48.10.
However, Aibaad Khan proved to be the backbone of the champion side. Representing Zone VI, he scored 470 runs at an exceptional average of 67.14. Remarkably, Aibaad played three fewer innings than many other batters due to Zone VI winning three matches by an innings, yet he still managed to produce massive contributions in just nine innings.
On the bowling front, Saifullah was sensational for Zone VI, claiming 34 wickets in 12 innings and emerging as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. Rehman Ghani from Zone I followed with 27 wickets, while Abdul Rafay of Zone III finished with 26 wickets.
The tournament provided an important platform for talented cricketers to showcase their abilities and attract attention at higher levels of the game. While several players succeeded in making a strong impact, others will look to work on their shortcomings and return stronger in future competitions.
RCAK congratulates Zone VI on their remarkable achievement and encourages all other zones to continue working hard in pursuit of next year’s Regional Inter-District championship.
