The historic batting legacy of Karachi cricket has found its newest torchbearer. Abdullah Fazal has named himself in the record books by scoring a match winning triple hundred for State Bank of Pakistan against Ghani Glass in the ongoing President’s Trophy. With this innings, Abdullah joins an elite club and reminds the cricketing world of the rich batting tradition that belongs to his hometown.
This milestone is not an isolated flash of brilliance. Fazal has been building a reputation for big scores under pressure. During the 2025–26 President’s Trophy Grade-I tournament, he played a brilliant knock of 182 runs against the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited. He carried that immense form into the 2025–26 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Playing for Karachi Region Blues against Sialkot, Abdullah scored 88 in the first innings and 114 in the second innings which contributed in victory of Karachi Region Blues by 218 runs. He earned a well deserved play of the match reward in the final. Those performances made the way for his international debut, where he immediately showed his class by scoring half centuries in both innings of his first Test match.
In the current domestic season, big runs are becoming the norm. Salman Ali Agha was the first to cross the 300 run mark this year, making Abdullah Fazal the second batsman this season to achieve a triple century.
Abdullah was not alone in destroying the opposition bowling attack. He found a great support in his opening partner, Hasan Raza, who played a mammoth innings of 222. Together, the two openers put on a great show with a spectacular 417 run partnership. This now stands as the third highest opening partnership in Pakistan’s first class cricket history. It is no surprise to local cricket enthusiasts that Abdullah hails from Karachi, reviving memories of 1976 when Waheed Mirza and Mansoor Akhtar set the ultimate record with a 561 run opening stand. Abdullah is proudly carrying that regional legacy forward.
While Muhammad Huraira still holds the record for the fastest triple century in Pakistan by doing it in 327 balls, Abdullah’s innings was incredibly swift and dominant. He remained unbeaten at the crease, and many believe that if he had kept playing, he could have aimed for a 400 or even come close to breaking the legendary record of the little master Hanif Muhammad, who holds the record of highest individual score in first class for Pakistan with 499. However, personal milestones were put aside for the team cause. State Bank decided to declare their innings at a massive total of 638 for 5 in just 115 overs. Thanks to Fazal’s rapid scoring rate, the team maintained an overall run rate of 5.54 runs per over. This aggressive strategy put State Bank firmly in the driver’s seat. It ultimately rewarded them with a comprehensive victory, as State Bank defeated Ghani Glass by an innings and 18 runs after bowling them out for 298 runs in their second innings. It was the last session of the 4th day. Timely declaration may have kept Abdullah away from personal records, however he will be much more satisfied with his runs coming in the team’s winning cause. Abdullah Fazal has proved his mettle once again, showing that he possesses both the skill for massive scores and the mindset of a true team player.
