Karachi’s emerging star earns first Pakistan ODI call

Wicketkeeper-batter Ghazi Ghori has received his maiden call-up to the Pakistan ODI squad following a prolific run in Pakistan’s domestic competitions.

The selection caps an impressive 2025-26 season for the 24-year-old, who has emerged as one of the most consistent performers in domestic cricket.

Ghori recently captained Karachi Blues to qualification for the National T20 Cup, underlining both his leadership and batting credentials.

Ghori’s breakthrough campaign came in the President’s Trophy 2025-26, where he was named player of the tournament after scoring heavily for State Bank of Pakistan.

Across seven matches, the right-hander scored 531 runs in 12 innings at an average of 48.27, including two centuries and one half-century, with a highest score of 138.

Behind the stumps he also made 21 dismissals, highlighting his value as a wicketkeeper-batter.

His performances made him the second leading run-scorer in the tournament and placed him firmly on the national selectors’ radar.

Moreover, Ghori’s influence has also been felt in the shorter format. As captain of Karachi Blues, he guided the side through the qualifying stage of the National T20 Cup, demonstrating composure both with the bat and in leadership.

However, his international call-up means he will miss part of the upcoming National T20 Cup campaign.

In his absence, senior batter Rameez Aziz will captain Karachi Blues, while Usman Khan has been drafted into the squad as Ghori’s replacement.
